In a bold move, Pegasus Airlines, known for operating one of the youngest fleets globally, has established its ambitious expansion plans with a milestone order of 200 Boeing 737-10 aircraft from the Boeing Company. The company’s strategic expansion and sustainability efforts focus on a 36 billion USD order, with deliveries set for 2028. Therefore, this marks the largest aircraft acquisition in the Turkish aviation history.

This significant investment underscores Pegasus Airlines’ strategy to enhance operational capacity and advance its long-term sustainability goals. Particularly, as the airline positions itself as a global player, this initiative aligns with broader growth targets and anticipates future demands. Additionally, by selecting the Boeing 737-10, the largest model in the 737 MAX family, Pegasus commits to next-generation aircraft that offer advanced fuel efficiency and lower operational costs.

Milestone order with strategic expansion and sustainability

By purchasing 200 Boeing 737-10s, Pegasus reflects its strategy to enhance global competitiveness and expand its aviation footprint. Moreover, these aircraft are known for fuel efficiency, achieving a 20% reduction in fuel consumption compared to previous generations. This efficiency leads to significant cost savings and supports the airline’s environmental goals. Additionally, the Boeing 737-10 features a spacious cabin and increased luggage capacity, aiming to enhance the passenger experience and meet the growing expectations of travellers. Güliz Öztürk, CEO of Pegasus Airlines, commented on the agreement:

“As a leading stakeholder in our country’s tourism sector, which creates net cash inflows and the highest added value for our country, and has shown record-breaking growth after the pandemic; we are working tirelessly to reach new record-highs and do our part for Türkiye to achieve the targeted 100 million visitors and 100 billion USD in revenue in tourism. We continue to invest in our fleet in line with our growth targets in Türkiye and globally, and to expand our network by launching new routes. Currently, with an average age of 4.5 years, we have the youngest fleet in Türkiye and rank among the airlines with the youngest fleets in the world.”

Collaborative efforts and future horizons

This deal not only strengthens the lasting partnership between Pegasus Airlines and Boeing, established in 1990 but also significantly involves local industries through Boeing’s National Aerospace Initiative with the Turkish government. Furthermore, this initiative will enhance local production capabilities and create export opportunities for Turkish manufacturers and the broader aviation market. As Pegasus Airlines prepares to integrate these aircraft into its fleet in 2028 attempting the largest aircraft acquisition, the aviation world is closely observing. Consequently, this effort not only sets a new standard for fleet modernization but also illustrates how airlines can promote economic growth and sustainability.
