The International Air Transport Association (IATA) will hold its second World Sustainability Symposium (WSS)  in Miami on September 24-25, 2024. The event, hosted by American Airlines, will focus on the actions needed to achieve the aviation industry’s goal of net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.

Willie Walsh, the IATA’s Director General, said regarding the news:

Sustainability presents a fundamental obstacle for humanity, as well as for our airline industry. Reaching a state of net-zero CO2 emissions by 2050 is a significant and intricate endeavour. However, we will achieve this goal through collaboration with the wider aviation sector and with the backing of governments. WSS offers a distinctive opportunity to unite all parties involved, educate, coordinate, and take decisive measures to strengthen our resolve and expedite progress.
