A Tigerair flight from Sydney to Melbourne has been forced to make an emergency landing after reports a threat was found on board.

According to Tuesday’s episode of Today, the flight left Sydney on Monday evening at around 7pm. The pilot reportedly became aware that there may be a possible threat on board and decided to return to Sydney and make an emergency landing.

Reports initially claimed it was a bomb threat but police confirmed to Today that the threat was more indirect in nature and that it was a written threat that had been made.

Tigerair released a statement confirming there had been an incident on one of its flights.

The flight touched down safely at Sydney airport around 8:30pm.
