Vietnam’s LCC Vietjet Air announced on Facebook that they will open ticket sales to Australia soon.

The Vietnamese budget airline’s latest post on Facebook says travellers will soon be able to hunt for low price tickets from Vietnam to Sydney and Melbourne. Whilst the details of the place of departure and schedule are yet to be confirmed, it is likely that the service will start by connecting Ho Chi Minh City to Melbourne and Sydney.

A Speedy Recovery

Despite having been disrupted heavily by the recent delays in flight schedules in Vietnam, the low-cost carrier has been expanding both its domestic and international network.

Vietjet has established various flights between secondary or even smaller cities around the country, mainly to accommodate the summer rush to tourist destinations. Services connecting northern cities to southern tourist destinations are turning a new page for the domestic market. Over 50 flights a day to and from Vietnam’s favourite holiday destination Phu Quoc Island have been recorded in June.

For its international sector, the airline will start operating flights from Vietnam to various cities in India such as Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, and Bangalore starting in September. Currently, the airline is operating 4 routes connecting Hanoi/Ho Chi Minh City with New Delhi and Mumbai. Earlier this month, Vietjet had also had its maiden flight to connect Hanoi to Japan’s Fukuoka and Nagoya.

Vietjet Air as Third Vietnamese Airline to Australia

The golden routes connecting Ho Chi Minh City with Sydney and Melbourne had always been in the palm of the flag carrier Vietnam Airlines for over a decade. With the introduction of its Boeing 787, Bamboo Airways became the second airline in the country to establish direct flights to Sydney in February 2022. Vietjet Air will be the third airline to serve this route with ticket sales available as early as September to Sydney’s Kingsford Smith International Airport and Melbourne’s Avalon Airport.

Vietjet Air will operate its Vietnam-Australia routes with their Airbus A330 for the launch. The airline has three Airbus A330-300s currently serving the busiest domestic route between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. It is expected that a total of seven A330-300 will be delivered by the end of 2022. With orders for the Airbus A320XLR, it is not hard to see the ultra-low-cost airline operating long-hauls with narrow-body aircraft in the future.
