Singapore Airlines sees business in New Zealand quickly increase following the pandemic.

Singapore Airlines experience high demand for New Zealand flights.

Singapore Airlines is experiencing a surprising surge in customers for their New Zealand flights. Like many airlines, the drastic increase in passengers after Covid caught them briefly off guard. George Robinson, Singapore Airlines’ representative in New Zealand, said the rebound in bookings happened faster than anticipated. In response, the carrier has been steadily escalating its service to the antipodean island.

Earlier this month, New Zealand started allowing fully vaccinated travellers from 60 visa waiver countries to enter the country again, increasing flight traffic. Before that, the country was known for implementing the world’s strictest coronavirus regulations, with citizens and essential travellers facing a 14-day quarantine upon arrival. Singapore Airlines continued to operate flights to New Zealand throughout the pandemic, though on a significantly reduced schedule. Singapore and New Zealand maintain a good relationship and recently signed an agreement to collaborate on green technologies.

New Zealand to Reopen Borders from 31 July

Now New Zealand has announced that they’ll reopen their borders to all travellers again, starting from the end of July. This is good news for Singapore Airlines, which is currently operating an A350-900 service to Auckland every day of the week and four weekly A350-900 flights to Christchurch. Robinson says the Christchurch flights will soon be increased to a daily service.

Commenting on the 31 July date, when all travellers from all countries will be permitted again, New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said:

“It provides certainty and good preparation time for airlines and cruise ship companies planning a return to New Zealand in the peak spring and summer seasons,”
