A Scoot Airlines Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, registration 9V-OJE performing flight TR-16 from Singapore (Singapore) to Perth, WA (Australia), was descending towards Perth when the right-hand engine, a Rolls Royce Trent 1000, shut down without command. The crew continued the approach for a safe landing on Perth’s runway 21.
The return flight TR-17 was cancelled, the passengers were rebooked onto other flights.
Australia’s TSB reported: “While descending into Perth, there was an uncommanded in-flight shut down of the right engine. The flight crew continued the approach and the aircraft landed safely.” The occurrence was rated an incident and is being investigated.
The Rolls Royce Trent 1000 engines have had numerous failures and extra maintenance checks happen for the past year. Other airlines including Air New Zealand, Virgin Atlantic and ANA have all made cancellations to some of their services due to these engine issues.
