Earlier today it was announced that Boeing CEO, Dennis Muilenburg, was being ‘ousted’ from the company following a “necessary [move] to restore confidence,” in the manufacturer; Subsequently, it has been announced that the Seattle-based aircraft giant has appointed a new Communications Manager as they look to restore the public’s confidence in the company, and the “doomed” 737-MAX aircraft

It has been announced that 61-year-old former Navy Pilot, Niel Golightly, will replace retiring company’s senior vice president (SVP) of communications, Anne Toulouse, effective from January 13th in the new year – 2020. Initially, Golightly will report to appointed interim CEO Greg Smith, and later the Group President and CEO, David Calhoun, when he takes up his new role at the Chicago based headquarters.

Golightly brings over 25 years of experience in the communications and strategy field to Boeing, having formerly worked for both Shell, the Ford Motor Company and most recently as Chief Communications Officer for Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, responsible for all the car maker’s corporate communications and media relations working alongside the company’s leadership team. Golightly’s experience will be much needed at Boeing, following recent criticism.

Speaking about the promotion, Smith said:

Niel is a world-class communications professional with deep knowledge, expertise, and relationships acquired over an accomplished career in both the private and public sectors,”  adding”Importantly, he shares our values of safety, quality, and integrity, and as a former Navy fighter pilot, Niel brings a deep passion for aerospace and Boeing’s mission. We are excited to welcome Niel to the team as we work together to safely return the 737 MAX to service, restore trust with our key stakeholders around the globe, and continue to build our future.

As Boeing begins to turn this new leaf, Travel Radar Media will be watching closely. Can the newly-founded leadership of Smith, Calhoun and Golightly help repair the damage to the Boeing brand, or is this merely another move of ‘too little, too late?’ Let us know in turn the comments below!
