Boeing 737 skids off runway and lands NOSE-DOWN at Odessa airport

Around 10 pm native time on Thursday, a Turkish Airlines Boeing 737-800 was forced into a hard landing in Odessa, Ukraine.

Flight TK 467 took off from Istanbul but had to perform a missed approach when it tried landing at Odessa. After circling the airport the second touch down attempt didn’t go as planned as the aircraft made a hard landing nose first, making the airplane veer off the runway snapping the nose gear.

All 134 passengers and flight crew onboard the aircraft evacuated the plane without any injuries

Earlier on Thursday, a business jet (Gulfstream G150) bound for Dubai aborted takeoff due to nosegear issue and airport was closed between 12:00 and 14:00.

Odesa International Airport

Built in 1961, Odessa is the third most populous city in Ukraine. The airport had a passenger traffic of 1,446,500 which was a 17.7% increase from 2017’s 1,230,000. Airlines that operate flights to the operate flights to the airport include Ryanair (with flights from Berlin-Tegel, Budapest, Gdańsk, Katowice, Kraków, Poznan, Wrocław), Austrian Airlines, Ukraine International Airlines among others.
