KLM Cityhopper celebrated its 60th anniversary on Sept. 11, 2026. The KLM Cityhopper network began in 1966 as NLM (Nederlandse Luchtvaart Maatschappij) with two Fokker aircraft and a focus on domestic flight routes. Since then, KLM’s Cityhopper network has expanded to 58 aircraft and over 350 daily flights, effectively connecting Europe with the globe via Amsterdam Schiphol.

KLM Cityhopper network is essential to Amsterdam Schiphol’s role as an aviation hub connecting Europe with the rest of the world. Amsterdam Schiphol transports 11 million passengers annually via KLM Cityhopper. This is especially crucial as passengers from within Europe fly with KLM Cityhopper to Amsterdam and connect via KLM’s intercontinental flights. International travelers have the opportunity to connect from around the world through Amsterdam Schiphol to over 80 European destinations, emphasizing how KLM’s Cityhopper network makes for easy global travel. KLM’s network is growing quickly, with new destinations including Biarritz, Cork, Dubrovnik, Exeter, Jersey, Ljubljana, Oviedo and Santiago de Compostela.

An Effective And Fuel-Efficient Fleet
KLM Cityhopper is focused on supporting aviation within Europe. In the long-term, it will optimize its network, keep adding more destinations, and focus on maintaining a modern and sustainable fleet.
For decades, KLM operated aircraft produced by the Dutch manufacturer, Fokker. However, in 2008, KLM switched to an Embraer fleet which now forms the main source of its operations. Furthermore, the newest generation Embraer E195-E2 is now one of the world’s most noise-free and fuel-efficient passenger aircraft models.
