Germany’s Silver Cloud Air has officially retired its last Cessna Citation Jet3 (CJ3) from service. The German charter operator completed the phase-out as part of an operational shift to streamline and modernise its premium offerings.

Silver Cloud Air and its Fleet

Silver Cloud Air is a German private jet charter operator and executive air travel provider based at Speyer/Cologne. It specialises in 24/7 on-demand corporate and leisure flights, operating a fleet of business jets (such as the Cessna Citation CJ3 and XLS/XLS+) across Europe and North Africa.

The carrier made a significant environmental push by operating flights across Europe using Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). Partnering with OMV Downstream, it utilised fuel derived from used cooking oil, achieving a verified reduction of nearly 16 tonnes of CO₂e emissions on a single campaign.

Its fleet of Cessna Citation XLS and XLS+ aircraft are capable of cruising at much higher altitudes than standard commercial airliners. This allows pilots to fly completely over severe weather and thunderstorms, ensuring a smoother journey.

Unlike light private jets that can be flown by a single pilot under certain regulations, Silver Cloud Air enforces a strict two-commercial-pilot mandate for all XLS operations to maximise passenger safety.

The Cessna Citation Jet3

Silver Cloud Air retired its lone Cessna Citation CJ3 to streamline its fleet and transition to a fully uniform fleet of Cessna Citation XLS/XLS+ aircraft. This structural shift reduces maintenance overhead, simplifies crew rostering, and optimises operational efficiency.

Prior to this shift, the CJ3 served as the only light jet in an otherwise super-light-jet-heavy fleet. For the operator, the move to a single aircraft family significantly reduces operational complexity and improves cost efficiency

Rather than operating multiple light jet variants, Silver Cloud Air has been expanding its capacity with larger super-light aircraft, recently adding the freshly painted D-CWAG and D-CAFE airframes to support its long-term growth strategy.
