Bristol Airport Sustainable Drive’s Record Number of Renewable Energy

Bristol Airport generated enough renewable energy in its sustainable power drive to fuel the equivalent of 400 homes in one calendar year. Over 1,425,000 kWh powered by the airport’s solar arrays has been produced this year, already exceeding last year’s power production.

The panels were installed as part of the airport’s sustainable initiative to keep net emissions at zero, with all buildings at the airport using this power source.

“We’re working towards our commitment to be net zero for Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions across our operations by 2030. Our investment in solar array, as well as electrification of buses, are among the initiatives we’ve been rolling out to meet the target.” shares Hannah Pollard, Head of Sustainability at Bristol Airport.

Additional panels and a 1.5 megawatt solar farm south of the airport were also included as part of the sustainable drive at Bristol Airport. Aims to cut carbon emissions across all operations at the airport is estimated at 73% by 2027 as part of their environmental strategy, which will be regularly monitored and progress kept on track.

“Due to the incredible summer we’ve had this year, significantly more renewable energy has been generated on site compared to 2024, which means less needs to be taken from the national grid. As well as reducing its own emissions, the Airport is working in unique partnerships with the aerospace sector to develop zero emissions flight.” shares Pollard.
