Wizz Air has made an announcement that they will be retreating the flights offered from their base in Vienna later this year. This is the first step of the airline’s decision to close their base at Vienna International Airport (VIE).

Closure of Wizz Air’s Vienna Base
Following a strategic review, Wizz Air has stated that on October 26 2025, they will withdraw two aircraft from their Vienna services as routes to Bilbao Airport (BIO) and London Gatwick Airport (LGW) are discontinued. Remaining operations from Vienna will be carried out until March 15 2026, when the base will officially close.
Wizz Air originally launched their Vienna base in 2018 with aims to expand their global network as new routes to Valencia, Rome Fiumicino, Malta, Bari, and Tel Aviv were launched. However, less than a decade later, the airline will be closing this base. This decision has come as a result of high costs, prolonged operational challenges due to maintenance issues, and taxes.
Passengers who will be impacted by this closure will be contacted by Wizz Air, with the option to rebook another flight or be refunded in WIZZ credits.
Wizz Air’s Vienna-based employees are also expected to be given support from the airline, with the provision of alternative roles or the opportunity to relocate.
