Avianca Airlines Expands Nonstop Routes: New Connections Between South Florida, Guatemala & Nicaragua

Avianca Airlines announced two new nonstop routes that will connect South Florida with destinations across Guatemala and Nicaragua in a bid to boost business and tourism growth in the region. The new connections will provide direct flights from San Jose and Fort Lauderdale to major cities such as Guatemala and Managua.

Daily and Alternating Flights Between Central America and the U.S

Speaking to Travel Radar, the expansion marks a deliberate push to enhance accessibility between South Florida and Central America that will cater to both business and leisure travellers.

Otto Georgye, Chief Commercial Officer at Avianca, said:

“The United States and Latin America are closely connected through tourism and business. In 2024 alone, we transported more than 4 million passengers to and from the U.S.”

Flights between San Jose and Guatemala are scheduled to operate every day of the week, planned to depart at 6:10A.M and arrive at 7.45A.M. The flight with no. AV0640 will operate every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday while the flight with no. AV650 will operate every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.

Flight with no. AV0606 between Guatemala to Miami will operate on a daily basis, with departure time of 3:25P.M and arrive at 8:10PM while flight with no. AV0607 between Miami to Guatemala will depart at 1:45PM and arrive at 2.25PM daily.

Flights between Guatemala and San Jose are scheduled to operate every day of the week, planned to depart at 9.45P.M and arrive at 11.15PM. The flight with no. AV0641 will operate every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday while the flight with no. AV651 will operate every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.

Regional Connectivity Across San Jose, Guatemala, San Salvador, and Managua

The route from San Salvador to Managua will depart at 8:10A.M and arrive in Managua at 9A.M with the flight number AV0446. The flight from Managua to San Salvador with the no. AV0447 , will depart at 5:35PM, and arrive in San Salvador at 4:40P.M. Flight with no. AV0446 from Managua to Fort Lauderdale will depart at 10:00A.M and arrive at 2:35P.M.

“With these new nonstop routes, we aim to further strengthen these ties by expanding our network to more than 40 direct routes between the U.S and Latin America,” said Otto.

This comes just two weeks after Avianca appointed its new chief executive officer (CEO) Diogo Elias who stepped into his new role from 1 May. As part of the expansion, Avianca will launch other connections from Chicago to San Salvador, Dallas to Bogota and from Bogota to Cordobas, Argentina.
