After a successful launch of Direct flights from from Nairobi to New York, the national carrier Kenya Airways (KQ) has announced that it will begin flights to Rome and Geneva beginning June this year. This is part of the airline’s plan to expand its flight network and revenue base in the wake of heightened competition from other players.

The national carrier is targeting travellers visiting these European countries for both leisure and business trips.

“We will be flying four times a week to the new destinations using a Boeing 787 Dreamliner,” said Sebastian Mikosz, it’s Chief Executive and Managing Director. Mr Mikosz said Geneva is a perfect complement for Nairobi, which is also Africa’s hub for UN headquarters among other international agencies.

With the addition of the two new routes, Kenya Airways now flies to 55 destinations worldwide, five in Europe and 43 in Africa. KQ recently launched flights to Somalia and New York.

Rome has a “global city” status with rich history and culture making it one of the top leading tourist destinations in the world. On the other hand, Geneva is a global hub for diplomacy, as it hosts various international organisations such as United Nations (UN).

The airline will deploy its 787 Dreamliner four times a week to cover the new routes which are already dominated by their respective airlines such as the Geneva based Swissair, which flies the East African route.
Tickets on the two routes will be available for sale from Tuesday January 22, 2019 with an introductory price on offer until February 15 of USD 699 from Nairobi to either city.
Kenya Airways is the national airline of Kenya and it was founded in 1977 after the dissolution of East African Airways. It flies to different destinations worldwide from its hub at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in Nairobi. With this route, Kenya Airways will offer excellent connections from these two cities to its 43 destinations in Africa for business, diplomatic missions, and tourism.
