A severed snake head was found in an in-flight meal aboard a SunExpress flight last week. The flight attendant was midway through the dish when they noticed something that shouldn’t be there.

Snakes on a Plane

According to One Mile at a Time, the incident happened on a flight from Ankara, Turkey, to Düsseldorf, Germany, on 21 July. The airline employee says they were midway through their crew meal when they noticed the small snake’s head among the potato and vegetables.

A SunExpress spokesperson described the incident as “absolutely unacceptable”. They told the Turkish press that the airline had paused its contract with food supplier, Sancak whilst the circumstances are investigated further.

Snake Head Investigation launched

Sancak emphatically denies responsibility for the snakehead, claiming it could never have originated from their food packing facilities.  They issued a statement saying: “We think this issue is not about us, and our legal department is looking into this matter. We don’t think it is from us, but we are mentioned, and we are very sorry. ”

A spokesperson for the inflight services provider told the press: “We did not use any of the foreign objects that were supposedly in the food when cooking (due to the technical and thermal conditions used in the in-flight catering facilities).”

Commenting on the incident, SunExpress said:

“With more than 30 years of experience in the aviation industry, it is our top priority that the services we provide to our guests on our aircraft are of the highest quality and that both our guests and employees have a comfortable and safe flight experience,”

“We would like to inform you that the allegations and shares in the press regarding in-flight food service are absolutely unacceptable, and a detailed investigation has been initiated on the subject.”
