U.S ultra-low-cost carrier Spirit Airlines operates its inaugural flights from Las Vegas and Orlando, Florida to Memphis, Tennessee.

The bright yellow aircraft was greeted by the traditional water cannon salute when it landed at Memphis International Airport.

The launch of new exciting routes

The first flights by the Florida-based airline began on 20 April. The Las Vegas – Memphis route will be operated regularly on a daily schedule.

The route will be flown by Spirit Airlines’ Airbus A320neo aircraft, which is capable of seating a total of 182 passengers in an all-economy class configuration.

President and CEO of Spirit Airlines, Ted Christie, spoke positively about the new route:

“Increasing our presence in Tennessee means more high-value travel options for our new Memphis guests looking for convenient flights to some of the country’s most popular leisure destinations.”

The Chairman of the Memphis – Shelby County Airport Authority Board of Commissioners, Michael Keeny, echoed Christie’s positively:

“It’s a great day for MEM passengers as Spirit will offer daily nonstop options to two very popular destinations. We are excited about Spirit’s long-term growth potential at MEM.”

Another new route connecting Memphis to Los Angeles will be added later on 8 June.

Spirit Airlines has grown to become the 8th largest airline in North America by passengers carried. The carrier has 176 aircraft in its fleet, consisting of various Airbus aircraft. The ultra-low-cost carrier is currently waiting on 134 aircraft to be delivered. And so, it is likely that Spirit Airways will be adding even more routes across North, Central, and South America in the coming months as its new aircraft are delivered.
