A Skylease Cargo Boeing 747-400F performing flight GG-4854 overshot the runway at Halifax Stanfield International Airport in Halifax, Canada on November 7th, 2018. The flight originated in Chicago, USA, with a destination of Halifax to pick up local seafood. The flight then would have continued to Asia to unload the seafood. On the morning of November 7th, at approximately 05:06 local time (09:06Z), the aircraft overshot runway 14, causing substantial damage to the aircraft fuselage, engine units and landing gear. The force of the overshoot caused the landing gear to collapse, causing significant damage to the underside of the fuselage. No one was seriously hurt in the incident, however all 4 crew members were treated on-site for minor injuries.

This is the second runway overshoot incident involving Skylease. This is also the third serious incident at Halifax airport in the past 15 years. In 2004, a MK Airlines Boeing 747-200F crashed on takeoff, resulting in the deaths of all 7 crew members. In 2015, an Air Canada A320-211 crashed while attempting to land, thankfully, no one was hurt, however some airport equipment was damaged and the aircraft was written-off.

The Investigation is still ongoing. Runway 14 remains closed
