Qatar Airways Cargo has started operating a new twice-weekly freighter service to Macau, the carrier’s fourth freighter destination in Greater China.

The air cargo carrier has also introduced transpacific freighter services offering direct flights across the Pacific from Macau to North America that drastically reduces flight times for customers.

Qatar Airways Cargo considers China and the Americas as key markets as many of the major industrial and manufacturing centers are situated on the West/Macau side of the Pearl River Delta.

Mr. Guillaume Halleux, Qatar Airways Chief Officer for Cargo said, “We have launched our newest freighter destination, Macau, just in time for the holiday season when air freight demand is high and the market is strong. The new services will connect manufacturing industries and exporters from the region to North America directly and quickly, without requiring a stopover at our hub in Doha. The launch of these services demonstrates our commitment to our customers in helping their businesses grow, while also enabling us to expand our presence in these key regions.”

Macau becomes the fourth freighter destination in greater China for Qatar Airways Cargo adding to Guangzhou, Hong Kong and Shanghai. Along with their freighter service Qatar Airways Cargo also transports belly-hold cargo on passenger flights to seven further destinations in China, while in North America, the carrier has a current network of nine freighter destinations along with 11 belly-hold cargo destinations.

The airline notes that many of the Guangdong province’s industrial and manufacturing centres are located on the Macau side of the Pearl River Delta. Electronics, garments and e-commerce are the major commodities exported from the city, and consumer goods its major imports.

Boeing 777 Freighters which offer 100t of cargo capacity are being used to operate Qatar Airways Cargos’ Macau flights. The onward transpacific leg is followed by a transatlantic one, as the aircraft returns to Doha via Liege in Belgium.

Beyond its freighter services, Qatar Airways transports belly hold cargo on passenger flights to seven Chinese destinations. In North America, the airline’s network encompasses nine freighter and 11 belly hold destinations.

Flight Fleets Analyzer shows that Qatar Airways’ freighter fleet includes 15 777Fs, as well as two 747-8Fs and eight A330-200Fs.
