Qantas has collaborated with Curatif and Four Pillars to produce an exclusive canned cocktail. Qantas flyers will now be able to try the Aviation Spritz on all international flights.

A drink you can only get in the sky!

Curatif, a company that produces ready-to-serve cocktails and Four Pillars, an Australian distillery that specialises in Gin, recently announced their latest collaboration on social media. The two companies worked together alongside Qantas to create a canned cocktail exclusive to the airline.

Those who are flying on international Qantas flights will be able to taste the new drink. The only requirement is that they are taking off from on Australian airport. All passengers can have this drink, unlike United and Delta’s new menu items, which are restricted to first class.

This new product is a big deal for Curatif and Four Pillars as it is Qantas’ only exclusive drink. Matt Sanger, the Managing Director and Co-Founder of Curatif commented on his excitement about this collaboration:

We love collaborating with Qantas and Four Pillars. […] I personally cannot wait to be onboard enjoying an Aviation Spritz – or two – very soon!

A spin on a classic cocktail!

In nineteen sixteen, a man named Hugo Ensslin was working as the head bartender for the Hotel Wallick in New York City. That year, Ensslin created and published a cocktail book called ‘Recipes for Mixed Drinks.’ Within that book was the original recipe for the Aviation cocktail. The recipe calls for gin, maraschino liqueur, Crème de Villette and lemon juice. The era and the aesthetic of the drink played a major part in its name. The drink has a blue hue due to the ingredients, making it seem like the sky within a glass. Additionally, the aviation industry was a new and growing field, hence the Aviation Cocktail!

Curatif and Four Pillars decided to blend what they are known for with Qantas, resulting in the creation of a variation of this drink. The drink, the Aviation Spritz, main spirit is Four Pillars Rare Dry Gin. Additionally, it uses Regal Rouge Daring Dry for the dry vermouth element. Curatif and Four Pillars state that the Aviation drink is lightly floral and refreshing, as well as a savoury edge. Besides that, it also has notes of lemon and a hint of Crème de Violette that gives it a sweet violet finish.

Overall, this is exciting news for all Qantas customers. For those who normally like to drink cocktails, the Aviation Spritz means they don’t have to settle for wine, beer or spirits when it comes time to the drink service. Now, they can enjoy a drink more suited to their taste.

Do you think Qantas made the right decision in adding a new drink or should they have added a new food item like United or Delta? Let us know in the comments or on social media!
