As the absence of airports plagues the nation’s hearts, there’s some good news on the horizon for Newquay Airport in Cornwall as it announces the continuation of its flights from the end of March.
Newquay Airport is all set to resume flights in March
It was announced this week, that flights from Cornwall Airport Newquay are set to start again at the end of this month. The first flight to get back up in the air will be from Newquay to Alicante in Spain and passengers were even available to book their seat a couple days ago.
Although restrictions in the UK lift a little on the March 29th, it seems the airport are trying to get ahead of the others, with flights starting again on the 28th of this month. However, international travel is still banned in the UK and travellers can only go abroad for essential or work purposes. This is unlikely to change until the middle of May.
Cornwall Airport Newquay has had a tough time during the pandemic, and has been in a state of limbo since the start of the coronavirus outbreak. They reopened in December, but then closed again shortly after flights were suspended. Therefore, it makes sense that Newquay Airport want to resume some flights as quickly as possible and rebuild their network, at least in the UK. Also, the airline can receive additional funding from the Chancellor’s Budget, which was announced early March. Thus, the airport have found some hope this year.
The Flights to Somewhere
RyanAir will be the first to fly from the airport, while other airlines like Skybus and Loganair, will follow suit in the next couple of months. Flights to London are at the bottom of the flying schedule and flyers are unlikely to see London Heathrow on the destination list until July. It’s quite a contrast to the thirty-three destinations on the list back in the summer of 2019. Nevertheless, after the disastrous year the aviation industry have had, it’s a start.
However, the airport will start to fly to different parts of the UK like Manchester and Dublin from May, if everything goes according to plan. Also, flights to Teesside are likely to resume from mid-May too, so travellers can explore the new store and bar at their airport. Last month, easyJet launched two new flights from the airport to Manchester and Glasgow, so it looks like things are really taking off at Newquay.
This is extremely helpful for UK citizens who have to ‘stay local’ until international flight restrictions are properly lifted. Different English cities are likely to be at the top of Brits’ holiday lists this year as borders are likely to remain closed around the world.
