As we know airlines are in a recruiting frenzy in order to meet the surge in demand for flights now that pandemic restrictions have been reduced. The airline Emirates is no exception. At the moment the airline has a global reach flying to 130 cities on six continents. It employs over 20,000 cabin crew altogether and is now looking for more in the US. At the moment its crew is very diverse with over 160 different nationalities which reflects the diversity of the customer base it serves.

In July it will be holding a series of open days for the positions. They will be held in Houston (in the US state of Texas), Atlanta (in the US state of Georgia), and Chicago, (in the US state of Illinois) this week and are expected to last the whole day.

What Is Emirates Looking For In Its Staff?

Emirates is looking for people who are passionate about delivering simple yet personalized and impeccable hospitality while creating memorable moments for its customer, as stated by the website Simple Flying. It wants its cabin crew to flexible, have a friendly disposition and have a passion to serve others and provide quality service. In addition, because of the physical demands of the job, they also require resilience and a determination to perform well all the time. Essentially what this means is that it would require staff to be able to work well under pressure.

Prospective applicants would need to be fluent in written and spoken English, have finished their final year of school as a minimum in terms of level of education, and have at least one year minimum of hospitality or customer service experience. In addition, they have to be at least 5 feet 3 inches tall (160 cm) and be able to reach 7 feet high (212 cm). This may be important, for example, to enable them to shut overhead baggage compartments. They are also expected to meet the visa requirements for the United Arab Emirates where the airline is based as well as having no visible tattoos when wearing the new uniform.

People will be informed the same day if they have been selected for further assessments and interviews and at what times these would take place.

What Happens After Selection?

Once selected, recruits undergo their seven-step safety and service delivery training. This occurs in Dubai where they are based. The steps cover induction, safety and emergency procedure, group medical training, security, uniform standards, service personality, and service delivery.

The employment package includes a tax-free average monthly starting salary of around $2,660 or €2,290. Actual pay however depends on the number of flying hours the crew member does. As one can see the rewards for working for a company such as Emirates are very high with the opportunity not only to earn but to save money with benefits such as free accommodation and transport to and from work in addition to health cover. However, the demands are high in terms of workload as well as giving the customer a personable memorable experience. However judging by the package given, Emirates is doing its best to attract the most talent. This is positive news for the  US which has like many countries suffered under the pandemic. We wait to see how successful Emirates will be in recruiting the best staff.
