Brazilian carrier LATAM has announced the launching of three new international routes in 2023. The announcement, which came as a welcome development for the carrier users, is part of the airline’s commitment to broadening services to its customers.
LATAM Brasil will launch flights from Brasilia to Lima, Porto Alegre to Santiago, and Sao Paulo-Guarulhos to Johannesburg in 2023.
Tickets are now on sale for the new international routes
The return of flights between Guarulhos and Johannesburg has been much anticipated, and shortly after the announcement of flight resumption between the two cities, LATAM Brasil placed tickets on sale. The much-anticipated flights between the Brazilian city and its South African counterpart will resume on the 3rd of August, 2023.
Brasilia to Lima, and Porto Alegre to Santiago will begin on the 26th of March, 2023. The daily flight between Brasilia and Lima will have a flight duration of 4 hours and 50 minutes. The route will be serviced by LATAM Brasil’s Airbus A319 and A320.
The two aircraft have a two-cabin configuration and eight premium economy seats. The A319 has 132 economy seats, while the A320 has 168.
In a statement released by Aline Mafra, Director of sales and marketing, LATAM Brasil, the airline restated its commitment to international flights.
“Despite the growth of our domestic operations, it is important to remember that we never stopped international services. We are an airline with borders, and our services from Brasil continue to connect our country to the rest of the world more than any other airline. It is with this spirit that we welcome all of our passengers on the new routes to Peru, Chile, and South Africa.”
The new route will reduce transit time between Brasilia and Peru in half, compared to flights that connect other airports. Furthermore, passengers travelling from Peru can connect to, at the minimum, 30 other Brazilian airports and a few international airports.

LATAM flights schedule
The flights from Sao Paulo to Johannesburg will be on Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners with a capacity for 300 passengers. The aircraft is configured in a 3-cabin configuration with 30 Premium Business seats, 57 Economy+ seats, and 213 Economy seats. The aircraft will depart Sao Paulo at 17:25 on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, while the return flights are scheduled for 12:45 on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.
The Porto Alegre to Santiago route will have three weekly flights on the Airbus A320. The flights are scheduled to leave Porto Alegre at 19:05 local time on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, while the return flights will be on the same days at 14:28 local time. The new route will be the second nonstop international flight from Porto Alegre, as LATAM already flies to Lima.

New routes from Sao Paulo to Los Angeles set for launch
As part of LATAM’s joint venture with Delta Airlines, LATAM Brasil will launch a nonstop flight from Sao Paulo to Los Angeles. This will be the first time the Brazilian carrier will fly to the US west coast. Given that flights have connected the two cities in the past, although it stopped in the last 22 years.
The new route announcement is significant for the airline and its customers. The most recent flight between the two cities was by America Airlines. However, the services stopped during the COVID pandemic.
