JOTA Aviation, a UK airline, specialising in cargo and charters, ceased operations this weekend. The carrier has yet to comment on its closure.

The airline ceased trading over the Easter weekend, according to a report from ukaviation.news. Jota has yet to release a public statement on its collapse and has deleted all its social media channels.

The airline is listed as having an “outstanding charge” on the Companies House website, the UK’s official business register. From this, we know the company has unpaid debts, but the official documentation does not disclose the lender, the securities, or the amount owed.

Who is JOTA aviation?

JOTA Aviation is a charter specialist based at London Biggin Hill Airport. The airline was most well known for flying football teams around Europe, as well as musicians and film stars. In addition to passenger charters, they also offered specialised freight charters.

JOTA’s fleet consists of an Avro RJ85, an Avro RJ100, and three BAe 146-300QTs. The Avro’s are used for passenger charters, and the 146s operate as dedicated freighters. Information from planespotters.net shows the RJ85 is currently in storage at Cranfield Airport, having been withdrawn from service last month on 17 March. The RJ100 went to join it this month, effectively ceasing the airline’s passenger operations.

The three BAe 146-300QTs are also at Cranfield. The first was retired there in April last year, with another withdrawn from service in September. The last of the three freighters was flown to the storage facility in February of this year. The aircraft leasing marketplace, MyAirTrade.com, shows the BAe 146’s as available for immediate lease, with the Arvo RJ85 also listed.
