HiSky, the low-cost Moldovan airline, is launching new routes for the upcoming winter season of 2022/2023. The airline currently operates 4 A320s and one A319 in a high-density configuration and has 3 main bases: Chisinau, Cluj-Napoca, and Iasi. They operate 5 summer season charters to vacation destinations and 10 scheduled flights to 13 countries. Let’s take a deep dive into their latest plans for the future.
The context
In an interview with the Ziarul Financiar (Financial Daily News), Mareş Cărăvan, Commercial Director of HiSky Europe, commented: “Regional Flights are extremely attractive and characteristics. In the first place, there is the necessity for better infrastructures like railroads and highways, to connect the country efficiently… For comparison, the route Timisoara-Bucharest takes 8 hours with the car and 10 with the railway.” Then proceeded to talk about the giant potential of Romania as a nation and the need for connection with the EU. And drops the news of the new permanent routes, that will be operated from Winter 2022/2023.
The announcement
The first route announced, as reported by our colleagues at BoardingPass.ro, is Chisinau-Bucharest, a route that at the moment is only served by full-service carriers like TAROM and Air Moldova. HiSky would be the first low-cost carrier to operate it. The other routes are all from Bucharest and will connect other major national airports like Timisoara and Cluj, and others to be confirmed, like flights to Oradea and Iasi.
With these new routes, the Moldovan airline, holder of a Romanian AOC, is ready to capitalize on the necessity of young Romanians to travel for both business and holiday and to jeopardize the monopoly of Ryanair and TAROM in the nation.
