Archer Aviation has entered a new agreement with a Japan Airlines startup underlying plans to purchase up to 100 of its Midnight eVOTL aircraft. This agreement includes a prospective purchase of up to 100 Archer’s Midnight aircraft establishing the basis for advanced air mobility networks through Japan. Moreover, this bold deal that took place on November 7, 2024, aims to reform how people travel by introducing advanced air mobility (AAM) across central Japan.

Advanced Air Mobility in Japan

More particularly, Soracle chose Archer’s Midnight aircraft to introduce its future advanced air mobility operations in Japan with plans to purchase up to 100 eVOTLs in a deal valued at up to $500 million. More particularly, the Archer and Soracle agreement includes pre-delivery payments of specific milestones before they deliver the aircraft.  In addition, Soracle plans to develop eVOTL networks in Japanese cities where traffic jams and geographical challenges constrain current ground transportation. In addition to serving international and domestic travellers, Soracle envisions these AAM networks as a convenient alternative for local residents. Potential locations for eVOTL routes include Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, Hokkaido, Setouchi and Okinawa.

Andrew Cummins, Senior Director of Business Development at Archer said:

Japan is widely respected for its forward-thinking approach to transportation and this investment into advanced air mobility is yet another example of that. We’re proud to stand with Soracle ahead of this new era of flight—together, we are committed to bringing an innovative, sustainable and convenient transportation alternative to the country.
