Boeing’s hyper-sonic concept could fly New York to London in just 2 hours.

Boeing has unveiled a concept jet that will be capable of flying from New York to London at Mach 5 – making it capable of crossing the Atlantic in just two hours. Firstly the concept aircraft would fly almost 3 times faster than the legendary Concorde. Furthermore the aircraft would be able to cruise at a flight level of up to 95,000ft. The concept was unveiled at the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics Aviation conference in Atlanta.

Kevin Bowcutt, chief scientist of hypersonics at Boeing, said. “We’re excited about the potential of hypersonic technology to connect the world faster than ever before.”

Also the concept aircraft will accommodate than a long range business jet it will be smaller than a Boeing 737.  Although the aircraft is not expected to enter service until late 2030’s.

In conclusion Mach 5 five times the speed of sound, of approximately 4,000mph, would make this amongst the fastest aircraft made. In comparison the SR-71 Blackbird flew at around Mach 3.3 (2,511mph).

Where as the world’s fastest aircraft was the North American X-15 a rocket powered aircraft capable of speeds up to Mach 5.9 (4,520 mph)
