Major carriers Singapore Airlines and Emirates are just two of the aviation-related firms that have been listed in the top 100 most reputable companies in the world by RepTrak.

Rolls-Royce, a British aerospace and defence company, came in at an impressive number four on the ranking. The company designs builds, and distributes power systems for the aviation industry.

Skytrax, World’s Best Cabin Crew winner Singapore was the highest listed airline, ranking 49. Emirates, the world’s largest long-haul airline, came in at 83.

Millions of perception and sentiment questions analysed

RepTrak releases an annual list of global companies it deems most reputable and has tracked the relevant data for 20 years. It does this by analysing thousands of online surveys and, in particular, millions of perception and sentiment questions. It can determine what the public thinks and feels about certain brands.

Singapore’s high ranking flies in the face of the general Asia-Pacific’s air travel recovery from COVID-19, with flights in the region still down more than three quarters compared with pre-pandemic levels, according to figures released earlier this year.

The UAE-based Emirates, on the other hand, reports a very different level of recovery. A global report by travel tech company Travelport found that the airline has surpassed its pre-pandemic passenger numbers, now at 110% of its 2019 figure.

Last year, the Middle Eastern country hosted the delayed Expo 2020 Dubai, which is thought to have increased the country’s draw of travellers searching for sunshine, luxury hotels and pristine beaches. A successful vaccination scheme in the country has also been a critical factor.

Strong recovery for manufacturers

Airbus, the world’s largest aircraft manufacturer, confirmed in 2021 that it was ramping up its production as it eyed a recovery from the pandemic, citing strong pent-up demand from airlines.

Meanwhile, Rolls-Royce last year constructed the world’s largest indoor aerospace test centre in the UK. The facility was built to allow it to develop its newest generation of engines, the UltraFan, which it hopes will be 25% more efficient than current models.

The global rankings were topped by timepiece manufacturer Rolex, followed by Ferrari and LEGO Group. Mercedes-Benz and Netflix also made the top 10.
