India’s soon-to-be newest low-cost carrier has been dropping further updates in the run-up to its launch later this year. This week, Akasa Air revealed the new look of the cabin crew uniform – which features some unconventional choices compared to other Indian carriers.
Teaser Trailer
Yesterday, Akasa released a new teaser video on its Twitter page, offering a sneak peek at the new uniforms. The 20-second black-and-white clip features snappy camera cuts of crew members adjusting their cuffs, collars, and… sneakers?

The clip never offers you a full shot of the new uniform, and the black-and-white footage means you never get to see the trademark “Passionate Purple” and “Sunrise Orange” livery for which the airline is known. The promo ends with a card imploring viewers to “STAY TUNED” for more updates.
Full Uniform Release
Just a few hours later, Akasa released shots unveiling the completely new look, featuring plenty of bright orange in line with the company’s colours. The airline says the colours are meant to represent the “warm, friendly and happy personality of Akasa Air”.

Also, in a first for an Indian airline, the crew uniform features casual black sneakers with orange laces. The new-look keeps in mind the “ergonomics, aesthetics and comfort” of the crew, especially given the many hours they’ll be staying on their feet. Vanilla moon, the shoe designers, even added extra cushioning from heel to toe to ensure better foot support.
What next for Akasa?
The new uniform comes just as the airline is ramping up to begin operations. Akasa announced last month that it would be releasing tickets in the first week of July. But before the airline can start flights, it first needs to obtain its Air Operators Certificate from the DGCA, which begins with the airline conducting proving flights. These were due to start at the end of June, and we should hear soon whether the airline has been successful.
