History has been made as Air Canada becomes the first airline to be recertified by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) for the safe transport of live animals via Air Canada Cargo. After an extensive audit, the airline was given the green light to keep up the good work.

A Month to Remember as Air Canada Becomes the First Airline to be Recertified by IATA
Canada’s largest airline recently celebrated its 85th anniversary by donating its oldest aircraft to the Aviation Museum in Winnipeg – and so this isn’t the first milestone Air Canada has celebrated this month, if you would believe.
In recognition of its efforts to offer safe, humane transport for all, the airline was awarded the Centre of Excellence for Independent Validators for Live Animals Logistics (CEIV Live Animals) recertification. Air Canada first received their certification in 2018 when the guidelines were introduced, becoming the first airline to do so.
The CEIV is a global certificate program that is driven to ensure the safety of animals travelling by air. Through a six-part process including the training, assessment and validation of an organisation, the IATA aim to ensure animals are handled in the best possible way once in the hands of supply chain stakeholders.

Transport of Live Animals Made Safer with Air Canada
Air Canada’s Vice President Jason Berry reflected on the importance of animal safety during air travel in a recent statement made by the airline:
“Every year, we expertly and safely handle thousands of complex shipments, from rescued dogs, endangered animals transported in conservation efforts, and of course family pets. Air Canada Cargo’s dedicated employees handling animals are specially-trained, and I thank them for their diligence in treating all animals as precious cargo while in our care.”
